Cheapflights.com Talks About Staying Healthy While Travelling

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

After hearing that doctors have classified a new type of headache they have called aeroplane headache, Cheapflights.com decided to provide tips to help travellers stay healthy while travelling and, while it is difficult to avoid that aeroplane headache, there are other travel ailments that travellers can take steps to avoid or minimize.  Perhaps the most common of these is the sunburn, which is something every traveller can avoid by using borad spectrum, waterproof sun block of at least 15 and applying it regularly and limiting sun exposure between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Probably the second most common ailment is an upset stomach, which can be avoided by using proper hygiene, drinking only bottled water, and avoiding fresh cut fruit and salads.  Malaria is also a concern in some areas.  Travellers should check to see if their destination is high-risk and have their doctor prescribe anti-malaria medication if it is.  Wearing mosquito repellant and long sleeves and pants is also wise.  Cheapflights.com also talks about STIs and sleeping issues.

Travellers Looking for Cheap Flights Trying to Avoid APD

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

As Air Passenger Duty (APD) increases, more and more passengers are trying hard to avoid paying it.  At present, a report from Sainsbury’s Finance indicates that more than one in ten passengers are making an effort to fly out of other European countries in order to reduce the impact the fee has on their travel costs.  For passengers departing from other locations, including Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Rome, and Madrid, the fees and taxes are lower.

One example of savings is a passenger flying to Sydney, who could save £190 in taxes and fees just by departing from Amsterdam rather than departing from London.  David Barrett from Sainsbury’s Travel Money, said that they have seen indications that some families are rethinking their summer travel plans due to the APD and that many of these families are willing to work hard to get around those fees.  Some are avoiding flying entirely while others are opting to fly out of other European airports that have better prices.

Cheap Flights Can Be Found for Flexible Fliers

Monday, June 11th, 2012

The very best way for travellers to find the cheapest flights is to be ready to go at a moment’s notice.  This kind of flexibility is what is needed for those who want to find the lowest airfares.  It also helps to be adventurous and not too concerned about the destination.  Being that flexible may not be possible for everyone or even a lot of people, but for those who have even the slightest bit of flexibility, there are some great deals to be found.

The average cost of a round-trip ticket for the coming summer is $431, which according to Kayak.com is a 2.6% increase over last year’s average.  However, remember that this is only average.  While some flights might cost as much as $800, there are others that will only cost $200.  Seth Miller, an information technology consultant says in his blog that while airfares are high, there are cheap pockets out there, such as a flight from Houston to Memphis for $180.

Sunday, June 10th, 2012

Cheapflights.com, a leader in online travel deals, has come up with a list of the Top 10 Adrenaline Escapes for Father’s Day.  These escapes are designed to let dad rediscover his youth and his youthful passions and to reward him for all that he does.  The first of the thrill-seeking list riding a Harley.  Yes, that’s right.  Everyone secretly wants to ride a motorcycle and if dad can ride a classic Harley down route 66, even better.

While the rodeo might not be for everyone, dad might get a thrill out of riding a bull because every young boy dreamed of being a cowboy and bull-riding school in Dallas, Texas might be just the right thing.  Dad can also take part in soccer training camp, “Be Sniper for a Day” in Wales (just like in the movies), spend a day as a Formula 1 driver in Luc en Provence, Captain Hook sailing adventure in Hong Kong, ice climbing in Norway, off-roading in Dubai, survival training in the bush in New Zealand, and meeting a Great White in South Africa.

Air Canada Plans to Launch Low-Cost Carrier

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

Air Canada is eyeing the budget carrier market and, with the growing popularity of low-cost carriers, they know that people want cheap flights.  Air Canada chief executive Calin Rovinescu says that they are seeing the ability of these budget carriers to hone in on and capture the market of the legacy airlines.  As Air Canada works hard to change the way it does business, launching a budget carrier of their own has become a priority.

Rovinescu says that Air Canada has to get involved in the budget market in one way or another, but was not forthcoming about details pertaining to the potential future low-cost carrier.  He said there are three or four successful models and they have not yet decided which one they would use.  Air Canada did try to get into the budget carrier market before, with Zip Airlines, but the airline had too few planes, which made it difficult to compete with WestJet.
