Archive for December, 2012 Survey Shows Few Canadians Going Home for the Holidays

Monday, December 24th, 2012, an online leader in finding and publishing travel deals, has conducted a survey of 400 Canadians and found that while more than 80% of Canadians want to travel to see their family this holiday season, fewer than 30% have actually made travel plans.  On the flip side of the coin, there were 18% of people who said they wish they could travel to be away from their family for the holidays and 3.2% of the respondents are actually doing so.

So who do people most want to visit?  Parents and children top the list of favorites, while the in-laws are at the bottom of the list, with only 2% of respondents putting them on their travel wish list.  The main factors causing people to avoid holiday travel this year are cost and distance, but these were followed closely by a feeling of just not liking the family.  Overall, the feeling of camaraderie and good spirit was the most enjoyable part of the holidays for most Canadians.

Increasing Cheap Flights Cause Angry Chinese Passengers

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

With the number of cheap flights that are available in China on the rise, as well as a growing middle class, there is growing congestion in the air and in the airports.  Passenger anger is also on the rise, passengers getting fed up with flight delays.  Passengers have responded this past year in a number of ways, such as assaulting ground crews, storming the runway, and ripping off an emergency exit door.  Yet, still airlines struggle to maintain their schedules.

Wang Zhenghua, founder and chairman of Spring Airlines, said in an interview earlier this year that when the flights are delayed the passengers make a lot of trouble, sometimes beating the airline staff.  He added that the government is promoting a harmonious society, which means airlines can only try to calm people with compensation.  On top of this, manufacturers are predicting that every other day for the next two years a new aircraft will take to Chinese skies, further increasing the congestion and delays.

Best Ways to Find Cheap Flights to the Caribbean

Sunday, December 2nd, 2012

With winter fast approaching, the season of searching for sun destinations is coming up and with that comes the question of how to best find cheap flights to the Caribbean, one of the most popular sun destinations in the world.  According to Michael Duchesne, publisher of, one of the most important rules when booking your flight is to book it a minimum of 30 days in advance of your trip.  This gives you the lowest fares of scheduled flights, as well as a full choice of where and when you fly.

Another expert, Allison Wallace, spokesperson for Flight Centre Canada, says that another way to ensure cheap flights to the Caribbean is not only to book at least a month in advance, but actually start searching for flights at least three months in advance of when you want to travel.  When prices start to increase, that means the seats are filling up.  Wallace also says to watch out for those winter weeks when fares are lower, such as the month of November through early December, mid- to late-January, and April (excluding Easter weekend).
