Cheapflights.ca Survey Shows Few Canadians Going Home for the Holidays

Monday, December 24th, 2012

Cheapflights.ca, an online leader in finding and publishing travel deals, has conducted a survey of 400 Canadians and found that while more than 80% of Canadians want to travel to see their family this holiday season, fewer than 30% have actually made travel plans.  On the flip side of the coin, there were 18% of people who said they wish they could travel to be away from their family for the holidays and 3.2% of the respondents are actually doing so.

So who do people most want to visit?  Parents and children top the list of favorites, while the in-laws are at the bottom of the list, with only 2% of respondents putting them on their travel wish list.  The main factors causing people to avoid holiday travel this year are cost and distance, but these were followed closely by a feeling of just not liking the family.  Overall, the feeling of camaraderie and good spirit was the most enjoyable part of the holidays for most Canadians.

Increasing Cheap Flights Cause Angry Chinese Passengers

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

With the number of cheap flights that are available in China on the rise, as well as a growing middle class, there is growing congestion in the air and in the airports.  Passenger anger is also on the rise, passengers getting fed up with flight delays.  Passengers have responded this past year in a number of ways, such as assaulting ground crews, storming the runway, and ripping off an emergency exit door.  Yet, still airlines struggle to maintain their schedules.

Wang Zhenghua, founder and chairman of Spring Airlines, said in an interview earlier this year that when the flights are delayed the passengers make a lot of trouble, sometimes beating the airline staff.  He added that the government is promoting a harmonious society, which means airlines can only try to calm people with compensation.  On top of this, manufacturers are predicting that every other day for the next two years a new aircraft will take to Chinese skies, further increasing the congestion and delays.

Holiday Travel Advice from Cheapflights.com

Monday, December 10th, 2012

With holiday travel right around the corner, Cheapflights.com has some travel advice.  Everyone is excited to be with family for the holidays and spend a relaxing time together, but this is also a time when getting to family for the holidays is stressful.  Cheapflights.com offers their Top 10 Holiday Season Travel Mistakes to help travellers know what to avoid.  The first of these is to avoid procrastinating when booking flights, which go up an average of $5 per day during the holiday season.

Pay attention to the connection details when booking so that you don’t cut the connections too close.  Also, avoid travelling during the busiest times, which include the days closest to Christmas and the weekend between Christmas and New Year.  Don’t bother using your points, which is very difficult at this time of year.  Whenever you can, book flights and hotel stays together.  Other mistakes commonly made include not planning ahead for the flight, waiting too long to check in, over-packing, eating on the run, and not bringing a book on the journey.

Spirit Airlines to Offer Cheap Flights to Disney World

Sunday, December 9th, 2012

Starting in February, Spirit Airlines will be offering cheap flights to Orlando.  The launch of these extremely cheap flights will be on February 14, Valentine’s Day, and there will be daily flights between Orlando and Houston.  Hair Balls did a comparison of the ticket prices, and, a round-trip ticket on Spirit in February costs $118.79 and with their competitor Southwest Airlines, the same flight costs $166.

This makes this an ideal getaway for the family that wants to have some vacation time in Disney World and escape the winter blues and it means they can make the trip on a plane instead of driving all that way.  In addition, Spirit Airlines also offers nonstop flights from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport to Dallas, Chicago, and Las Vegas.

Plan Travel Far in Advance for Cheap Flights

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

It might be December, but if you are planning on travelling next summer, then this is the time to be making your summer vacation plans.  This is the time when you should be booking your flights in order to find the cheapest flights available.  There are a number of reasons for this, the first of which is that starting now gives you more time to shop for the best travel deals, no matter what you are purchasing.

A second reason to start so early when making your travel plans is that you will be more likely to get the days off from work that you want to have off.  Booking so far in advance will ensure you can take advantage of the lowest rates so you can find the cheapest flights.  For example, you can depart on a Wednesday, which offers the least expensive flights during the week, and you can book the flight on a Tuesday, which is the cheapest day to book flights.

In addition to the Majorca-Heathrow route, Vuelling is also launching other flights between the UK and Spain, including cheap flights between Gatwick and Barcelona and between Cardiff and Malaga.  Chief executive of Vuelling, Alex Cruz, says that the Heathrow route will be welcome by the strong expat community and together with the new Gatwick-Barcelona flights coming in March, these will mark a fourth consecutive year of growth for the airline.

Best Ways to Find Cheap Flights to the Caribbean

Sunday, December 2nd, 2012

With winter fast approaching, the season of searching for sun destinations is coming up and with that comes the question of how to best find cheap flights to the Caribbean, one of the most popular sun destinations in the world.  According to Michael Duchesne, publisher of Travelzoo.ca, one of the most important rules when booking your flight is to book it a minimum of 30 days in advance of your trip.  This gives you the lowest fares of scheduled flights, as well as a full choice of where and when you fly.

Another expert, Allison Wallace, spokesperson for Flight Centre Canada, says that another way to ensure cheap flights to the Caribbean is not only to book at least a month in advance, but actually start searching for flights at least three months in advance of when you want to travel.  When prices start to increase, that means the seats are filling up.  Wallace also says to watch out for those winter weeks when fares are lower, such as the month of November through early December, mid- to late-January, and April (excluding Easter weekend).
