How to get relatively cheap flights to Europe

Monday, March 31st, 2014

If you’re planning a trip to Europe, you should expect it to cost a lot, but there are some tips to help save you money.

Book your trip early. The best time, according to CheapAir, is about 319 days ahead of time.

Use specific airports. The four cheapest airports to fly into are Brussels, Madrid, Dublin, and Milan. The four most expensive are Munich, Athens, Venice, and Rome.

Be flexible. If you don’t need to fly on a weekend, don’t. Fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday for the best prices.

Know which months to fly. May and September are cheapest, but early summer (the first part of June) and late summer (the last part of August) are less expensive than mid-June through to mid-August.

Top places where the sun aligns

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014

Cheapflights has put together a list of locations where our ancestors recognized the equinox.

The obvious location for viewing the equinox is Stonehenge in England. Tourists also visit the site for the summer solstice.

Brodgar, Scotland is another location marked by stones. No one knows the reason why the Ring of Brodgar was built on Orkney, but experts guess it was built between 3000 and 2000 BC.

Chichen Itza in Mexico, not far from the Yucatan Peninsula, is the ruins of an ancient city. Here you’ll find the Temple of Kukulkan. During the equinox, the way the sunlight hits the northern stairway makes it appear that the feathered serpent god is slithering down.
