The high cost of cheap flights with eDreams

A holiday-maker in the UK was shocked when she went online to book two return trips to Portugal and found that the online travel agency eDreams wanted to charge her £23.7 billion. Marion Sessions was about to click “proceed” when she realized how much the website was charging for the return baggage check-in. The eDreams website was advertising cheap flights using Ryanair and Monarch Airlines, and was offering her two return flights for £164.07 (US$266.54). Before she clicked confirm, she looked at the total price and saw the website was charging an outlandish price of over £20 billion.

A spokesperson says it appears to be an isolated incident and made assurances that the system would not have permitted a transaction of this size.

All you need to do is visit the SkyScanner flight search page, enter in the city from which you are departing, and simply type “everywhere” into the “To” box. Then enter your travel dates and you will get a list from which to choose.

Cheapest destinations for winter holidays

If your’e flying from the UK, Dubai is the cheapest destination during the winter months. Kayak researched the cheapest places to visit with temperatures 26C (78.8F) and up in October, November, and December. If you want to go in October, head to Cyprus; Larnaca is the most affordable autumn destination. A return flight will cost just £148 ($240 US). Spain is also affordable with flights around £169 ($274 US) in October. In November and December, head to Dubai for £333 ($541, West Palm Beach and Orlando in Florida starting at £464 ($755 US). Of course, these numbers don’t include accommodations and food while you’re there.

Cheapflights compiles list of vacations spots to celebrate Teddy Bear Day

  1. It wouldn’t be Teddy Bear Day without Theodore Roosevelt, the man after whom the stuffed bear was named. Check out Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington, D.C.
  2. Winnipeg, Manitoba has a commemorative statue of Winnie the Pooh, that well-known bear story that was based on a real-life bear named Winnie (short for Winnipeg). A.A. Milne’s son, Christopher Robin, loved the bear and that is what inspired Milne to write the stories.
  3. The Vermont Teddy Bear Factory in Shelburne, Vermont has been in operation for over 20 years. You can see how they are made and even buy a new best friend at the gift shop.

Jet Airways offers cheap domestic flights

One day after budget carrier SpiceJet started fares at Rs. 499 for domestic flights, Jet Airways has also launched a cheaper domestic flight, with fares starting at Rs. 500 ($8.30 USD) plus taxes for domestic economy-class flights. This fare applies to all destinations within the airline’s domestic network.Bookings can only be made on Wednesday and Thursday, however, and travel is starting January 16, 2015. The deal does not cover group bookings and only includes direct flights.

Budget carrier IndiGo has also released a promotional deal, with all-inclusive fares starting at Rs. 999 ($16.55 USD). These apply to bookings made 90 days ahead of the travel date.Air Asia India is also offering a discount for different routes starting at Rs. 1,290 ($21.41 USD)
