Aeroloft Could Offer Cheap Flights Within a Year

On Friday, the head of Aeroloft, Vitaly Savelyov, told President Vladimir Putin that the airline might become a budget airline within the next year, and they are willing to give up their monopoly on more than 30 international route to do so.  Savelyov listed the conditions that have to be met in order to set up a national budget carrier, which include getting the proper permission for the sale of non-refundable tickets and the creation of special airports.

There are certain Russian laws that need to be amended in order for the budget airline to be formed.  For instance, airlines are required to carry up to 10 kg of baggage for free and they are required to feed passengers.  Putin has agreed to review the proposal , but says that the issue of labor must be addressed carefully and unions must be consulted.  However, last week Irish budget carrier Ryanair asked Russia permission to fly between Ireland and Russia so the interest is there.
