Beware of Cheap Flights Scam Websites

The National Fraud Authority has issued a warning regarding the increasing number of fraudulent websites offering cheap flights.  So far, they have had 150 frauds reported since January of this year.  These sites are falsely claiming to have an Atol license from the Civil Aviation Authority or they are claiming to be members of Abta.

Once consumers get on the site and “book” a flight, these sites have a variety of ways to take advantage of the customer.  They using stolen credit cards, using customers’ credit cards to make payments, and even issuing fake tickets, often cancelling them after the fact.  The National Fraud Authority is warning people that these sites can quickly disappear and that all people who want to book tickets online should first check the site’s Atol or Abta numbers to verify that they are indeed legitimate travel sites.
