Brits Make a Break for Vacation Spots

With the end of the Olympics, Brits are booking holidays like mad, trying to get away from the hectic days of games, or perhaps trying to sustain the momentum of the excitement.  Either way, Oonagh Shiel from says that the demand for Bank Holiday getaways is higher than usual.  The most popular destination is Spain, with locations such as Palma, Alicante, Malaga, and Barcelona being at the top of the list.

Laurence Hicks, director of tour operator and holiday rentals company CLC Leisure said that the end of July and early August were pretty quiet, but now there is a huge surge in bookings.  People have been booking more tennis holidays (up 17%) and bookings for sailing and windsurfing holidays are up 20%.  However, those who are planning to travel are being warned that possible strike action with easyJet pilots in France over the coming week could put a damper on travel plans.  The airline says they are hopeful the disruption will be minimal.
