Cheap Flights Return to Majorca

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

Expats that live in Majorca will be able to visit home on the cheap once again as Spanish carrier Vuelling plans to launch the new Palma Majorca to Heathrow route that will begin next March, just in time for the 2013 summer travel season.  The last time a direct flight on this route was offered was when bmi offered the flight in 2009.  This will also allow those expats living in the UK to easily t to their Majorca homes and it will boost the local property market in Majorca.

In addition to the Majorca-Heathrow route, Vuelling is also launching other flights between the UK and Spain, including cheap flights between Gatwick and Barcelona and between Cardiff and Malaga.  Chief executive of Vuelling, Alex Cruz, says that the Heathrow route will be welcome by the strong expat community and together with the new Gatwick-Barcelona flights coming in March, these will mark a fourth consecutive year of growth for the airline.

Best Ways to Find Cheap Flights to the Caribbean

Sunday, December 2nd, 2012

With winter fast approaching, the season of searching for sun destinations is coming up and with that comes the question of how to best find cheap flights to the Caribbean, one of the most popular sun destinations in the world.  According to Michael Duchesne, publisher of Travelzoo.ca, one of the most important rules when booking your flight is to book it a minimum of 30 days in advance of your trip.  This gives you the lowest fares of scheduled flights, as well as a full choice of where and when you fly.

Another expert, Allison Wallace, spokesperson for Flight Centre Canada, says that another way to ensure cheap flights to the Caribbean is not only to book at least a month in advance, but actually start searching for flights at least three months in advance of when you want to travel.  When prices start to increase, that means the seats are filling up.  Wallace also says to watch out for those winter weeks when fares are lower, such as the month of November through early December, mid- to late-January, and April (excluding Easter weekend).

Public Sector Workers Get Flight Deals with easyJet

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

Low-cost carrier easyJet has announced that they will be giving a cost-cutting deal to MSPs, police, and other workers in the Scottish public sector.  The airline has struck a deal with Expotel, which is the agency that takes care of all public sector travel arrangements, including those of the Scottish government, as well as local authorities and NHS Scotland.  Chief executive Carolyn McCall said this will help make their travel less expensive and safeguard the taxpayer’s purse.

The deal on flights for government officials and Scottish authorities comes along with the introduction of six new routes at Edinburgh Airport, which are set to bring an additional £90 million to the Scottish economy.  Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says in these tough economic times they are always looking at how to reduce costs, including travel costs, and the deal between Expotel and easyJet will allow for significant savings for the public sector.

Find Cheap Flights Using Graphs with WhichAirline.com

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

WhichAirline.com has a new innovative way to search for cheap flights that it has made it much less of a headache to search for the lowest prices.  The website now features a neat graph of search results, instead of a list of results that is hard to decipher.  The graphs contain visual hints for stopovers and flight duration and the results are sorted based on a price-duration ratio.  The suggested flights are with airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, and easyJet.

Lukas Nevosad, co-founder of WhichAirline.com, said that no one is going to choose a flight for $1000 when they can get it for $100.  He adds that they divide the search results into groups and then display only the best results.  WhichAirline.com does not actually sell tickets, and when customers find a good deal, they are directed to a travel agent or the airline to make the purchase.  WhichAirline is a free service.

Travel Landscape Changing, Cheap Flights Part of It

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

The future of travel includes computer-driven cars, train-loads of people travelling to the cities, and cheap flights on sleeker, more fuel efficient aircraft.  Expect the transition to start happening within the next ten years and know that the airline industry is well on its way.  The new aircraft coming into use are made of lighter material and with more efficient engines, which is making it possible to reduce emissions and the cost of air travel.

This means that budget carriers will be the norm in the future and are already well on their way to claiming that status.   They consistently have full flights and the tickets are cheap.  Experts say that in ten years there will be no one left fighting having to pay for all the perks of airline travel.  Instead, we are reminded that nothing is free.  The airline industry is becoming unbundled and paying for everything from snacks to baggage is the new trend.

EasyJet Doubles Dividend During Tough Times for Rivals

Sunday, November 25th, 2012

While their competitors struggle with rising fuel costs and the crisis in the Eurozone, easyJet is flying high.  The airline’s annual results showed that they doubled their dividends this past year.  This was possible since many travellers took late summer vacations and booked them on cheap flights and the airline is also picking up business from their struggling European rivals.  There have even been competitors who have gone out of business entirely.

Examples of struggling rivals include Iberia of Spain, which announced this past month that they would be letting go nearly one quarter of its workforce and taking a close look at its network.  Germany’s Lufthansa has also said that it will be cutting costs.  Richard Hunter, head of equities at stockbroker Hargreaves Lansdown, said that considering the troubles faced by so many, the doubling of their dividends was “a clear statement of management intent around easyJet’s prospects.”

For those who have not yet made their travel plans or booked their flights, Frontier Airlines is trying very hard to lure them in with some good holiday deals.  They have cheap flights across the board, including flights departing from South Bend.  These spectacular deals include one-way ticket prices of $78 from South Bend to Denver.

However, Frontier warns that these deals are limited and there are baggage fees associated with them so those who want to book need to do so while they still can or they might just lose out on some of the best holiday travel prices around.

Australia is the Place for Staycations

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

Cheap Flights Australia has revealed that Australia is the best place for staycations after conducting a survey of Australians, 58% of whom have said that they prefer to stay in Australia for their vacation.  More than half of those who stay on the continent for their vacation fly to reach their destination.  This supports Australia as being a great place for staycations, with its variety of beaches, deserts, and skiing.

Most of the respondents for the survey say they would be willing to travel more than eight hours to reach their destination, which means they want to have gadgets on the journey.  Electronic gadgets are the most popular, with 43% of respondents choosing something like an eReader or laptop.  Something to read and water followed as second and thirds place for the must-haves.  Other popular vacation destinations for Australians include countries in Southeast Asia.

WestJet Encore will Produce Cheap Flights in Canada

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

On Monday, Gregg Saretsky, CEO of WestJet, told those in attendance at the Canadian Club of Montreal to expect short-haul ticket prices to drop as much as 50% with the launch of WestJet’s new regional Encore service, which is due to begin next year.  Saretsky asked how it made sense that the lowest walk-up fare with Air Canada from Montreal to Quebec City, a distance of only 139 miles is $530 one-way before taxes, while the same type of flight from Vancouver to Kelowna, 179 miles, is only $152?

Saretsky says that WestJet is out to liberate Canadians from the high cost of air travel in small communities that they do not yet serve.  Their history shows that in every city they have ever gone into airfares have dropped by 50% and they expect to do the same with WestJet Encore.  The new Encore service will be launched in the second half of next year.
