Cheap Flights Changing Travel Culture in Japan

Budget airlines offering cheap flights is changing the way people think about travel in Japan.  Peach Aviation Ltd. starting operating out of Kansai International Airport in Osaka Prefecture in March, Jetstar Japan Co. is set to start operating out of Narita International Airport in July, and Air Asia Japan Co. is also set to operate out of Narita starting in August.  This signifies that Japan is entering the era of low-cost airlines.

Tokio Sato, an editor at the monthly magazine Airline, said that Japan is entering a time when people will treat air travel the same way they treat train and bus travel, hopping on a flight on a whim for a weekend trip to enjoy the cuisine in another city.  The prices of the budget airlines are quite a lot cheaper than those of the traditional airlines, with Peach offering flights from Kansai International to New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido during the Golden Week holiday for less than half the cost of ANA.
