Cheap Fuel for Flights to Ecuador

The president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, is trying to attract airlines into the country and he is doing so by offering cheap fuel to any airline that flies there, allowing them to offer cheaper flights and entice travellers.  There will be a 40% discount on fuel for any airline that operates direct flights to and from Vancouver, Los Angeles, Rome, or Frankfurt.

The only details he gave about the deal thus far he gave during his regular weekly address on Saturday, during which he said that the discounted airfare would last for five years and airlines would have to make a minimum of three flights per week.  The goal behind the offer of discounted fuel is to increase his country’s connectivity with the world, improving tourism, education, and business.  The country has much to offer, including the cities of Cuenca and Quito, plenty of rainforests, and the Galapagos Islands.
