Lufthansa will offer budget long-haul flights starting in 2015

Lufthansa is going ahead with its plans to start offering budget long-haul flights starting in 2015. The board gave approval on Wednesday to increase its budget flight portfolio in order to try to stay competitive. This decision came mid-week of a strike planned by Lufthansa pilots. The first long-distance flights will start off going to southern Africa, some destinations in the Indian Ocean and Florida by late 2015. The company will also work to expand the regional airline Eurowings. The striking pilots say that the airline is making cuts in the wrong places in an effort to keep flight costs low. The pilots are fighting to keep retirement schemes that the airline wants to discontinue.
