Six Tips to Finding the Cheapest Flights

Scouring the online travel agents for cheap flights in a helpful way to keep the cost of travel down, but there are a few tips that will help you make the most of your search.  First of all, the day you book your flight matters.  Booking your flight on a Tuesday will help you find the cheapest flights, particularly very early in the morning, which is when airlines tend to launch their sales.  Then there is the day on which you fly.  The cheapest days to fly are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and sometimes Saturdays.

Arrive at the airport early.  Airlines are penalized if they leave late, so if they are able they will sometimes err on the side of caution and leave early.  By arriving at the airport early, you are sure not to miss your flight, which is costly.  Just assume there is no free baggage (which is the case on a number of airlines) and pack accordingly, as light as possible.

Book the flight before breakfast so that if weather or something else holds up the flight, you have a whole day’s worth of flights to catch.  Finally, when they say a flight will be delayed because of mechanical problems, don’t stray too far away.  They are only estimating the time and if you aren’t at the gate when they are ready to fly, they will leave without you.
