Some domestic flights are cheapest 54 days in advance; others require much longer

Prices for flights fluctuate so much that many people find it frustrating to try to get a good deal.

Airlines use sophisticated algorithms to look at booking trends and constantly change the prices of tickets in order to get the most money possible out of each flight. That explains why two passengers sitting side-by-side may have paid different fares depending on when they were booked.

According to CheapAir, for domestic flights (with a few exceptions), the best time to book is 54 days in advance. If you want to fly to San Diego, Ft. Lauderdale, Phoenix, Pensacola, West Palm Beach, or Orange County, you’d best buy those tickets 75 days in advance. If you’re going to Hawaii, book 87 days out, and for Las Vegas, buy your tickets 81 days ahead.
