Top places where the sun aligns

Cheapflights has put together a list of locations where our ancestors recognized the equinox.

The obvious location for viewing the equinox is Stonehenge in England. Tourists also visit the site for the summer solstice.

Brodgar, Scotland is another location marked by stones. No one knows the reason why the Ring of Brodgar was built on Orkney, but experts guess it was built between 3000 and 2000 BC.

Chichen Itza in Mexico, not far from the Yucatan Peninsula, is the ruins of an ancient city. Here you’ll find the Temple of Kukulkan. During the equinox, the way the sunlight hits the northern stairway makes it appear that the feathered serpent god is slithering down.
