Three international soccer teams are invited to compete against the HK League Selection in the Lunar New Year Cup. The matches are held at Hong Kong Stadium on the first and fourth day of the Chinese New Year.
Formerly known as the Carlsberg Cup, the Lunar New Year Cup is the most important annual international soccer event in Hong Kong. Many countries have taken part in the tournament, including the Czech Republic, Mexico, Yugoslavia, Denmark and Nigeria.

Last year's cup (in 2009) saw the Suwon Bluewings edge out Hong Kong in a gripping penalty shoot-out. The other two teams, knocked out in earlier rounds were South China Pegasus Team and Sparta Prague.
