Hanuman Jayanti

Apr 2010 (annual)
Loud and colourful processions fill the streets, with devotees wearing masks and tails and carrying large idols of Sri Hanuman on the day of Hanuman Jayanti. Hanuman Temple and others devoted to the monkey god come alive on this day.
The idol of Sri Hanuman is worshipped with oil, a puja that is unique to Hanuman Jayanti. Devotees fast, read the special Hanuman Chalisa texts and perform special pujas (prayers and offerings).

Sri Hanuman is the ideal selfless worker because of his dedication to serving Lord Rama. The birthday of the Hindu monkey god is celebrated in true style because he is considered the living embodiment of the true Karma Yogi (one whose devotion is demonstrated through work or service).

Entry is free of charge. Respectful dress inside the temple is imperative - shoulders must be covered and shoes left outside.
