Marwar Festival

The blue painted city of Jodhpur
Miranda Wilson
Oct 2009 (annual)
This annual festival is celebrated in the Hindu month of Ashwin, in Jodhpur, the former capital of Marwar Province. Scores of folk dancers bring myths and legends to life in a showcase for traditional music and dance of the old Marwar region.
Other attractions at the festival include a camel tattoo show and polo. The impressive Umaid Bhawan Palace, Mandore and Mehrangarh Fort provide the ideal venue for the cultural extravaganza, and many other competitions also take place.

With its colourful folk dances, enchanting music, graceful costumes and impressive displays of the royal sports of Rajasthan, the Marwar Festival is a wonderful opportunity to witness the rich culture and proud history of the land of the Rajputs.
