Art Access Week

Aug - Sep 2009 (annual)
Hours: 10am-9pm (during the Access Week only)
Cost: Free
Aiming to provide affordable art to Mumbai's citizens, the Birla Academy of Art and Culture presents its annual Art Access show at the end of August. The dozens of paintings and sculptures available at the Art Access Week are all priced under Rs21,000.
Some of the most well-known Indian artists feature in this show. Naturally big names are often represented by small works, usually on paper. But there's plenty of young talent on view, available at bargain basement rates. The show itself is crowded with artworks as well as clients. There are paintings on the walls, on tables, even stacked against the wall. Every available square inch of space is taken up by the items on sale.

This is not a show for people who like to ponder silently over paintings, but those interested in buying Indian art without paying extortionate prices should make a beeline to the venue.
