The Munich International Festival of Film Schools features short films, documentaries and animation from 28 film schools, representing 20 countries, with screenings at the Munich Film Museum.
The festival gives young and innovative filmmakers the opportunity to present their works to the public, film industry and critics and is one of the biggest student film competitions in the world. There are several competitions, among them the German Film School Award (sponsored by ProSieben) and the Young Talent Award (with a top prize of €15,500). Former heads of the jury include Roland Emmerich, Alan Parker, Budd Schulberg and Wim Wenders.

The festival has been the starting point for a number of film careers. Oscar winners such as Caroline Link, Florian Gallenberger, Jan Sverak and Nick Park screened their early films here, as did Cannes winners Thomas Vinterberg and Lars von Trier.
