Famous for its elaborate facade of inlaid black-and-white marble, Florence's Santa Maria Novella church contains works by Giotto, Brunelleschi, Ghiberti and Masaccio, to name but a few.
The church, which was designed by two monks in 1246, was completed in 1360 under the direction of Fra Iacopo Talenti, who also designed the Spanish Chapel, the convent Refectory and the belltower in Romanesque-Gothic style.
