The Texas Memorial Museum on the University of Texas campus in Austin has been the state museum since the 1930s and houses items of cultural and natural historic interest.
Long term exhibitions include natural wonders such as gems, butterflies and fossils as well as skeletons of a pterosaur, a mosasaur and dinosaur tracks. Short-term exhibitions look at fish, lizards and snakes.

In January 2004 the museum changes its focus to natural science, with a new Hall of Geology on the first floor and a Biodiversity Discovery Hall on the fourth.
